SPRING CLEANING a GREENHOUSE
by Carole Schwalm
Get ready for the growing season! If you remove the dirt, the algae and various other things, you let in more light and control pests in the process.
If you have plants inside the greenhouse, choose a mild day when you move them outside while you are cleaning. Make sure they are protected while out there.
Sweep or vacuum debris. Then, clean the structure with detergent or disinfectant and hot water. You can use hydrogen peroxide-based products and there are special greenhouse cleaners. It is a ‘glass’ house, you might want to clean the glass too, both inside and out.
Clean the glazing and ease any dirt that has been trapped in the panes. Test the cleaning product you are using on the glazing to make sure it won’t damage it. This is a good time to see if any repairs are needed.
